Sad News

We were preparing for Kevin to come home this week with home-hospice, but yesterday things took a turn for the worse. He had been responding quite well to the antibiotics, but then the infection broke through. He remains at MD Anderson and his Drs do not want to release him now. They have him on the strongest of antibiotics but they are merely slowing down the infection and delaying the inevitable. His body can no longer fight off the onslaught of bacteria.

His family is with him round the clock since yesterday and he has brief moments of alertness. He also is being given pain meds as needed. Please pray for a peaceful transition for him.

The clean-up party planned for this weekend will be postponed a week.

Deneen,

Please tell Kevin that he is in my prayers. Tell him that I'm thinking about that day on our 1st visit to Boulder when he rescued that guy on the flat iron. We dropped a canteen (and watched it fall) and one of the guys we were with panicked. Kev scrambled around him like Spider Man and got him to a safe spot.

Prayers and peace to you and your family Deneen.

Deneen and family,

Please let me know if there is anything I can do. I really feel the need to do something! I'll be praying for you all to have the strength to get through these difficult times.

Deneen, I'm very sorry to hear of Kevin's current condition. I had the pleasure of working with him in the C-17 Door Group in '93-'96. We eventually redesigned all the big doors on the aircraft but I'll bet his favorite is the Crew Door. Kev was the lead engineer for this project which included building a full scale prototype. I think he loved every minute even while experiencing occasional stress when things didn't go just right. The new Crew Door was a big success due to Kevin's huge contribution to the redesign.
Our thoughts and prayers go out to him and his family.

Another friend from the "old" C-17 days here. We are very sad to hear the bad news. Was directed to Kevin's blog by our friends in Long Beach. Some of us have the privilege to be around Kevin since '91 and learn many things from him. He is a great person and I'm thinking of the many days & nights when Kevin bailed me out troubleshooting/fixing the airplane. He always had time for my calls and shared in my successes. I can see his smile and hear is words. He is a helpful and considerate man. My family & I will keep you in our prayers. Please tell him I am thinking about him.

Kevin and Deneen,

I just got "wind" from Sam about Kev’s condition. I always admire Kevin’s sense of adventure and blazing new trails. It can be said that you’re taking this one too far. I’ll say that you’re blazing this trail way early. If you do transition to the other side, I know you will be looking after Deneen, Kelden and Nicholas. You and your family will be in my heart forever. I love you all.

Hello Deneen and (hopefully) Kevin,

I just heard about Kevin's condition and this blog. I have thought of both of you and Kevin's health over the years but I have not taken to time to try to find out how your family has been doing. I am so sorry to read about all of problems that both of you have had to endure.

I know how hard this can be as my wife, Nina, is a cancer survivor and a close aunt recently passed from cancer. It is a terrible disease.

My hopes and thoughts to both of you for the best possible outcome from all of the tragedies that you are enduring.

Deneen,

Masood passed on an email that led me to find out about this situation. I'm very sad to hear what's going on, it's been a long time since we have spoken but I certainly remember the old days too and the fun times we had so many years ago. Please know that my prayers are with you, Kevin, and your family. I hope by some miracle he can pull through. God Bless.

Seeing the blogs and such made me reminiscing about the times when I meet Kevin when both of us started working on the C-17 back in 1985. I enjoyed working with Kevin as well as doing things outside of work like skiing at Mammoth, climbing Mt Whitney. Kevin always had a positive outlook even during difficult times and I’m sure his still doing this making these trying times easier for all. Our prayers are with you.

I am so sorry to hear about all of the sadness that is in your life. I didn't know Kevin that well, but he always had a friendly face and was one of the smartest people I've worked with. I can't even imagine what all of you are going through; I hope you find peace. Everyone will miss Kevin, and never forget him.

Deneen, Kevin and Families:

I am so sorry to hear about all the sad news from your family, especially Kevin P. I am truly saddened about Kevin. I worked with Kevin from 1986 to 1989 on Aft Fuselage, Ramps and Cargo Door of C-17 Airplane. He is a great person and good design engineer.
